World’s Top Fashion Events in 2021

Fashion doesn’t stop. It constantly changes with new formats, but does not give up on fashion shows, which have officially become phygital (physical and digital). Read our article and discover the best fashion events scheduled for 2021.

If you are passionate about fashion, you have to follow what happens in the world’s top fashion events – they are the best place to find new fashion trends.

A fashion show is an event organized by fashion designers or stylists to showcase their upcoming line of clothing and/or accessories.

The shows debut every season, particularly in the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter seasons. This is where the latest fashion trends are made.

The display of the clothes on the runway is often an intellectual and artistic construction of the designer’s ideas. The public has the task of interpreting them, while appreciating the details and workmanship of every single item.

Many of the contemporary designers tend to produce their own shows as if they were theatrical performances, with additional elements such as live music and technology components.

Here is our list of the world’s most famous fashion events of 2021:

From Tuesday 12 January, Pitti Uomo is online on Pitti Connect, Pitti’s innovative and revolutionary digital platform that will host special events and fashion projects. The digital format of the 99th edition of Pitti Uomo will remain online until the end of March.

Although there are many famous fashion weeks around the world, only four are known as the “Big Four“: New York, London, Milan and Paris.

In general, the New York Fashion Week is the first to kick off the Fashion Week season twice a year, taking place at the beginning of February.

The first New York Fashion Week was created in 1943 by Eleanor Lambert, press director of the New York Dress Institute, the American fashion industry’s first promotional organization.

This year, the shortened New York Fashion Week was held from 14 to 17 February 2021. CFDA chairman Tom Ford renamed the official New York Fashion Week schedule to the “American Collections Calendar” to reflect the growing number of American designers showing in locations outside of New York.

The presentations can be viewed through Runway360, the CFDA’s digital platform and on nyfw.com. Some shows will be streamed through each designer’s social media accounts.

London Fashion Week

The first official London Fashion Week took place in October 1983 and its location was a car park.

This year, the London Fashion Week took place from 19 to 23 February 2021 on www.londonfashionweek.com, a digital platform, where people can access not just the collections, but also additional multi-media content, including interviews with designers, podcasts and e-commerce.

The Milan Fashion Week is held twice a year in Milan, Italy. The Spring/Summer Show Event is held in September/October, while the Fall/Winter one is held in February/March.

The Italian fashion week owes its origin to Giovanni Battista Giorgini who, inspired by Eleanor Lambert, the mother of fashion week, organized a series of shows at Palazzo Pitti in Florence.

Thanks to him, Italian fashion gained international legitimacy, but due to problems of overcrowding in the city of Florence, fashion shows were moved to Milan where, in 1975, the first Fashion Week took place.

The 2021 edition of Milan Fashion Week took place in its “Phygital” version, with physical events and digital presentations and it was open only to journalists, photographers, buyers and professionals in the sector.

From January 15th to 19th, men’s fashion week included 5 live fashion shows and 32 digital contents that was visible on the Camera Moda platform.

CFDA Fashion Awards

The CFDA Fashion Awards is an event organized by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which honors excellence in fashion design in America. For this reason, it has been called “the Oscars of fashion“.

The first awards issued by the Association were in 1984 with a Lifetime Achievement Award to the stylist James Galanos. Subsequently, different award categories were defined which were then standardized at the end of the 1990s.

The 2020 edition was the first in digital mode and was broadcast through the Runway360 online platform on September 14. The winners were announced by Tom Ford in a video posted on the digital platform of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

The CFDA did not comment on the possibility of repeating the men’s event experienced last year. However, on 26th February, he is launching IMPACT a new, multi-faceted initiative to create opportunities for historically underrepresented and unsupported communities in fashion.

As CFDA states, “IMPACT will identify, connect, support, and nurture Black and Brown creatives and professionals in fashion, furthering CFDA’s mission to advance American fashion by including diverse talent in every facet of the industry’s ecosystem.”

Green Carpet Fashion Awards

In conclusion, the Green Carpet Fashion Awards is an innovative event that was created to promote and reward fashion houses and emerging designers who are committed to making their products sustainable and ethical.

Last year, the fourth edition of the GCFAs was broadcast on Saturday 10 October on Sky Uno. They was also broadcast during Shanghai Fashion Week where a special event was held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the relationship between Italy and China.

As Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana states, “the show combines cinematic footage with a combination of augmented reality and visual effects, with the world’s best talents and commentators appearing as holograms”.

The dates of this year’s event has not been announced yet.
